Russian Northern Fleet press office reported 6 December that Project 20385 guided-missile corvette Gremyashchiy entered the White Sea for state trials.
The press office said in a statement that: “For several days, the corvette’s crew will check the ship’s systems and mechanisms at sea and test radio-technical armament with the help of the Northern Fleet’s aviation. Besides, the corvette will test-fire its main missile system against various types of targets.”
The Gremyashchiy is the Project 20385 lead corvette laid down at the Severnaya Shipyard on February 1, 2012, and floated out in June 2017. The corvettes of this Project developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau are designated to detect and destroy enemy submarines and surface ships, provide for troop landing and cope with numerous green-water tasks. Armed with Kalibr cruise missiles the vessel can engage coastal and surface targets at ranges of 1,500 km and 450 km.
Jane’s Defence Weekly reported 6 November that the Project 20385 guided-missile corvette has a displacement of 2,200 tonnes and is 104 m long and 13 m wide. It is powered by two Kolomna 1DDA-12000 diesel powerplants producing a speed of up to 27 kt, a cruising range of 3,500 n miles, and an endurance of 15 days. The corvette has a 99-strong crew. The ship’s 3S-14 vertical launch system can fire three types of missiles: the 3M-14 against land targets, 3M-54 against surface targets, and 91R against submerged targets. In the future, it will be armed with the Tsirkon hypersonic missile.
