Ocean Submarine’s NEYK N3 ocean-going diesel-electric attack submarine can be used worldwide within 24 hours thanks to air transport.
The ability to carry out a mission with a combat submarine on the other side of the world within 24 hours has now become a reality with the NEYK N3 built by Ocean Submarine. The world’s most manoeuvrable submarine features state-of-the-art technology that allows it to complete missions even when faced with cyber-attacks.
“Modern weapons have entirely changed warfare,” says Ocean Submarine CEO Martin van Eijk. “Superiority is no longer assured for the party with the largest army; small manoeuvrable teams with tactical weapons are far more effective. This fact has been underlined by the recent destruction of the Russian flagship Moskva by two Neptune anti-ship missiles in the conflict with Ukraine.”
It is exactly these kinds of scenarios that lay behind Ocean Submarine’s decision to develop a compact submarine that has significant benefits over conventional vessels. “The NEYK is smaller but carries full equipment and weapon systems,” adds Van Eijk. “It can do anything that current submarines can and yet its crew only consists of 12 members. This means you need five times fewer people to operate one full submarine.”
“In addition, the NEYK N3 Combat Submarine was designed in such a way that it can be transported by air in the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy military transport aircraft,” continues Van Eijk. “This speed and flexibility make it possible to immediately respond to situations. The submarine can be used to collect information or eliminate threats anywhere in the world within one day. These are unique attributes that set the sub apart.”
Ocean Submarine developed the NEYK N3 specifically to monitor or eliminate enemy targets, such as radar stations, rocket installations and command posts, unobserved. Thanks to its excellent stealth properties and extremely low noise profile, the submarine can also be used to land a team of Navy Seals undetected without the risk of being eliminated by modern weapon systems.
“Even when cyber-attacks disrupt radio signals and make electronic equipment unusable, the NEYK N3 will continue to perform its tasks,” explains Van Eijk. “Two independent systems are fitted to make this possible so the submarine doesn’t rely on electronic equipment like the periscope, radar, sonar, sensors and monitors. Where current submarines go blind, this will not be the case with the NEYK N3 thanks to its large pressure-resistant spherical dome. This ‘glass cockpit’ allows pilots to monitor other vessels and aircraft and respond quickly.”
The NEYK3 Combat Submarine has a robust design with a length of 19 metres (63 ft) to 22 metres (73 ft) and excellent stealth properties. The electromotors are placed outside the pressure hull and power the propeller directly, producing a very low sound profile.
The submarine can also turn on its axis in just seconds by switching the electromotors to the opposite direction. This allows the sub to avoid acute threats and launch torpedoes many times faster to eliminate hostile targets.
In addition, the NEYK N3 can travel far longer distances underwater than conventional submarines thanks to its exceptional design, larger diving rudders and innovative energy supply solution. Moreover, it has a standard diving capacity of 300 metres (1000 ft) which can be upgraded.
The NEYK3 Combat Submarine can be equipped with various weapon systems. The primary and secondary systems are very versatile, featuring two launching tubes for all types of torpedoes, mines and missiles, and they can be equipped with various types of defence weapons.
Patrol and attack mission consists of the standard payload 2 x bow heavy-weight torpedoes + optional additional payload of 8 x flank torpedoes. The supersonic anti-ship missiles onboard can reach a speed of 0.75 Mach (900 km/h). Flying just above sea level, hostile radar systems will have no chance to eliminate these missiles, further ensuring their target precision.
There are also options for installing other facilities such as a high-pressure chamber with an airlock inside and an extra hatch outside to let divers in and out underwater. This hatch can also be of great value in rescuing other submarine crews if necessary. All in all, the innovative design and compact dimensions combined with intelligent systems result in the ultimate combat submarine and invisible coastguard.
About OCEAN SUBMARINE
Ocean Submarine is specialised in developing small state-of-the-art submarines with advanced technology capable of performing a wide range of tasks. From our base in George Town on the Cayman Islands, we have been performing intensive research into the development of innovative technologies for submarines for many years. We are currently working on the latest generation of submarines that can effectively protect coastlines worldwide against threats.
We work with specialist partners who supply the best technology in their respective fields. Each of these specialists provides many years of experience in all types of processing and production needs.
Our submarines are produced with innovative production methods in which our top-notch plating machines create an incredibly precise spherical shape from one piece. All extra parts are welded into place by robots with the utmost precision. These activities take place in accordance with the very highest standards in the world and using the most advanced machinery.
