The Polish Army recently received another batch of 120 mm RAK self-propelled mortars designed to provide fire support for mechanized and armoured units. The RAK mortars are mounted on 8×8 Rosomak armoured vehicles, offering high mobility and crew protection.
The RAK mortars have a range of up to 12 km and can fire up to 10 rounds per minute. They can also use various types of ammunition, including high-explosive, smoke, illumination and precision-guided rounds.
The RAK mortars are part of a modular fire system, which consists of several vehicles and components that work together to enhance the effectiveness and accuracy of the mortar fire.
The system includes artillery command vehicles, artillery reconnaissance vehicles, artillery ammunition vehicles and artillery armament repair vehicles. The system also uses advanced communication and navigation equipment, as well as a computerized fire control system that allows for rapid target acquisition and engagement.
The Polish Army plans to equip each of its mechanized and armoured brigades with a battery of eight RAK mortars and support vehicles. So far, over 100 RAK mortars have been delivered to the Polish Army, and more are expected in the coming years.
The RAK mortars are produced by a consortium of Polish defence companies, namely Huta Stalowa Wola and Rosomak. The RAK mortars are also being offered for export to other countries that are interested in modernizing their artillery capabilities.
